Thumb Sucking Program

Our Thumb Sucking Program supports children to gently and confidently stop thumb or finger sucking using a positive, child-centred approach. While thumb sucking is a normal self-soothing behaviour in infancy and early childhood, continuing the habit beyond the preschool years can impact dental development, jaw growth, tongue posture, speech, swallowing patterns, and oral muscle function.

At Eat Speak Play, our Speech Pathologists work closely with children and families to understand the reasons behind the habit and provide practical, evidence-based strategies to help children successfully stop when they are developmentally ready. Our program focuses on building motivation, increasing awareness, developing replacement strategies, and supporting healthy oral development without shame, punishment, or pressure.
